Question #5, Respond to one of the quotes to note. "My best friend had become my worst enemy" (Deven)

In the quote (51 Alexie) "My best friend had become my worst enemy" Junior has parted and become enemies with Rowdy. The person stating this quote is Junior (Arnold), and the interlocuter is Rowdy. Junior is saying this because hew has been together, friends with Rowdy for so long that once the friendship broke, he could not repair it, or even be regular friends with rowdy. (49 Alexie) My heart broke into fourteen pieces , one for each year that Rowdy and I had been best friends." At this moment he is realizing that it's over, done, finished, Rowdy now hates him. As Junior reflects each year or "piece" of his life he can't even look into the future because there is no Rowdy in the future like there had been every other part of his life. He had just lost a friend of his past looking for a new future.

  1. Deven, I like the way you laid the blog out. After the quotes you added some supporting detail to help describe the quote. I do think that you should have put how Rowdy and Junior were together before they became enemies to make the reader of this post understand the conflict between them. One thing that I would add is the setting. In my mind the setting helps me get the visual of that moment in the book making it more dramatic and vivid. Overall, I think this was a well thought out post.

  2. I agree with you on this post. However, I think that you are missing some key parts that surrounded it. When Rowdy punched Junior was a big part, and if he never got punched, reality never would have struck him so hard- if he didn't he might still be walking around with no recognition to what happened on Rowdy's side. Aside from that one piece though, I think that you did a really good job on this post, and that it was very well thought out.

  3. After Rowdy heard the news, Junior thought, "I'm sure that everybody on the rez heard that scream. It was the worst thing I'd every heard. It was pain, pure pain."(Alexie 52). This quote shows that Rowdy is both angry and devastated by Junior's news. He has mixed feelings about Junior because he is furious with him for leaving the rez, but he does not want to loose his best friend. Rowdy has a very physical way of representing his emotions, and screaming and beating Junior was Rowdy's way of telling him not to leave. The fact that Rowdy cried also shows how crushed he is by this news because it takes something very shattering for him to break down. Rowdy and Junior have a very deep love for each other, and their reactions show just how much they care for one another.
